Pilates is a training method named after its German inventor, J.H.Pilatu, who at the beginning of the 20th century, developed a system to help professional dancers with their rehabilitation in the US. Introduction to Pilates at Fitness on the Park focuses on the most important principles of Pilates (“matwork”): breathing, concentration-awareness, postural control and relaxation. When practised with consistency, Pilates will improve the function of the abdominal muscles, low back and hips, which together constitute the so-called “powerhouse”, as well as overall flexibility.
